Outdoor weddings add a special bit of fun to your wedding day, but they also take a little more preparation and planning. These tips will help you have the coolest outdoor wedding!
Photos & Video on the Grounds
Let’s be honest. You probably chose this venue because of the breathtaking views. Talk to your venue coordinator or wedding planner about places on the grounds that are great for photos/video. Some golf courses may provide a golf cart to get to farther spots, and others may have great ideas about how to decorate and adorn the outdoor space to make the most of your venue.
Prepare for Rain & Heat
Pittsburgh summers can be HOT. And if you’ve read other posts here, you know I’m a stickler for being prepared. That means having a space where people can cool off, and plenty of bug spray, sunscreen, and water. And you’ll probably want to tell your guests ahead of time that the wedding will be outdoors so they know to leave the stilettos at home. For our wedding, we provided sunscreen and bug spray to all of our guests as part of their welcome gift, and fans would make a cool (pun intended) addition to your outdoor grab bag.
And because it’s Pittsburgh – have a rain backup plan. This secondary space can also be a great place for guests to cool off if the rain clouds stay away and the sun is shining bright.
Whether it’s food trucks, a pig roast, or after-party s’mores, take advantage of the outdoors and add some unique food to your menu. Check with your cake maker about the best way to store/present your cake so that everybody can enjoy it. Unfortunately, ice cream cakes will probably not do well in the sun, but an ice cream food truck will! (Shameless plug for our favorite ice cream sammies – Leona’s).
Get Outside and Have Fun
Invite your guests to enjoy the outdoor space! Have lawn games, cocktail hour outside, or a sparkler exit at the end.
